If you want authentic Mexican or south American cuisine, you should go visit the Taqueria Guadalajara on 24th street in the heart of the Mission district. There are lots of restaurants on 24th street that serve delicious Mexican food, this establishment stands out.
I ordered the steak plate which is served on a sizzling platter with a separate plate of rice, beans, salad, sour cream and fresh avocado slices. The portions at Taqueria Guadalajara are HUGE! I am a big eater and I couldn’t finish the meal in one sitting. We also ordered the chicken “wet burrito”. The burrito comes with all the traditional ingredients with a savory sauce on top which you will eat with a knife and a fork. You would be lucky to be able to finish half of this burrito. This Mexican restaurant has a self-serve salsa bar with endless fresh tortilla chips. The mood in the Guadalajara restaurant is friendly with passers-by dropping in for a quick bite or food to go. You will order your tacos, burritos or whatever you desire first at the counter where you will get your basket of chips and you can go to the self service fresh salsa bar and choose from 4-5 different salsas.
This restaurant is in the same neighborhood as the Mission Dolores, Dolores Park, Mission San Francisco de Asis and many of the Precita Eyes Murals in this very cultured part of San Francisco known as the Mission District. Neighboring districts include the Noe Valley and the South of Market (SOMA). It is a easy MUNI ride or a short drive from any part of town.
