What’s on the menu?
Maru Sushi restaurant on the up hill of Powell St. going toward Nob Hill from Union Square. This sushi restaurant's location in San Francisco is probably the only thing it has going for itself. Starting with the water which smelled funny (may be it was the ice) all the way through the service which was very slow, this is a sushi restaurant that I wouldn't visit again. Not only were the sushi rolls dry and brittle but expensive. For two people, who ate a moderate amount but had no alcohol, we spent $70! The Maru Sushi 49er's sushi Roll was strange because it had mint inside...but I guess it was creative and some people would enjoy it. The Lion King sushi roll, was just OK and fell apart. The Salmon Crunchy sushi roll was good but that is because it was fried so it is hard to screw that up. The Volcano sushi roll was good but I was already not too happy with the rest of the meal and service at Maru Sushi restaurant so I didn't enjoy it so much. I really felt like I went to a tourist restaurant in San Francisco that was so so but definitely would not succeed if it relied solely on locals who knew better. By the way, the service was so slow at Maru Sushi that we saw a customer leave because his order took so long.
