For an excellent burger, Joe's Cable Car restaurant in San Francisco is hard to beat! Joe's Cable Car restaurant has been making burgers for San Franciscans since the 1960s and it is a well kept secret. Joe's Cable Car restaurant decor is that of the typical diner with stainless steel moldings and booths but the real magic is in the kitchen that has a window where you can view your burger grilling after it is ordered. These burgers are really good quality since they have a butcher shop on site and grind their own meat. These San Francisco burgers are a little more than you would pay for at comparable burger restaurants (Lori's Diner, Mel's Diner etc.) but they are worth it. Joe's Cable Car restaurant is also independent so it is not so cookie cutter like the other comparable burger joints. We did have one not so pleasant incident with our order where our burgers were mixed up somewhat (I got a smaller patty than I ordered and my wife got a larger one than she ordered...and let is suffice that it wasn't as simple as switching the patties). I told the waitress about the mix up and she said that she could send the burgers back to the kitchen but that would have meant waiting even more....which we didn't want to do. Anyway, the burger was delicious even if the order was screwed up. I thought the waitress would throw in the fries for free or something but she didn't. She said we should have sent the burgers back to the kitchen if we weren't happy. We didn't want to wait and didn't feel she was sensitive to our trouble so her tip suffered as a result. I've been to Joe's Cable Car restaurant before and the service seemed to be fine so I think this was a one-off. In any case, even with the mix up, I consider Joe's Cable Car restaurant to be one of the best San Francisco burger restaurants.
