Noe Valley is one of the few neighborhoods in San Francisco where you might encounter children in restaurants and on buses. This is thanks to the Stroller Brigade that inhabits the small valley. Eric’s Chinese restaurant fits right in – it is busy and a bit overrated. That being said, the food is pretty good for “American Chinese” in Noe Valley.
The space is clean and brightly lit, if not a little sterile. Parking is difficult – Noe Valley residents complain that Eric’s customers take a lot of the limited parking as it is. Luckily Eric’s is right on the J Muni line making it easy to get to using San Francisco public transportation. The food is not too greasy and they use a lot of fresh ingredients. The Mu-shu is delicious and just a little spicy. The veggie chow mein delivers a lot of fresh veggies, but not many noodles. The shanghai tofu is also a good choice. The chicken dishes I have tried at Eric’s restaurant have all featured chicken that was a little overcooked and dry.
Service is pretty hit and miss, but always a great option for takeout. If you really want Chinese food in San Francisco there is better, but if you want Chinese food in Noe Valley, it will do.
